Anna Bright transformed from a nationally-ranked tennis prodigy into one of professional pickleball’s most formidable competitors. Born in Fort Worth, Texas, and raised in South Florida, she grew up in a tennis-obsessed household where the sport was woven into the family’s identity from day one. When Anna was just three or four years old, the Bright family moved to a house specifically chosen for its proximity to tennis facilities.

Her father Kris Bright, a former Division I tennis player at Tennessee Tech, served as her primary coach throughout her developmental years. Both of Anna’s younger sisters, Cindy and Emma, also played competitive tennis, making the sport a complete family affair. Despite the immersion, Anna’s relationship with tennis was complex—she excelled not because she loved the grind, but because the structure had been there since before memory began.

At West Boca Raton High School, Bright dominated Florida junior tennis, finishing with a perfect 19-0 singles record her freshman year and capturing four state titles. She earned three consecutive Palm Beach Post All-Area Player of the Year honors (2015-2017) and achieved national rankings that placed her #9 in the country and #51 in USTA 18-and-under rankings.

Her tennis career culminated at UC Berkeley, where she reached a career-high NCAA ranking of #13 and led the Golden Bears to the program’s first Pac-12 Championship in her senior year (2021). After graduating with a Business Administration degree, Anna faced a crossroads. Tennis had brought her to the finish line of her education—a scholarship fulfilled—but the passion had worn thin.

Then came pickleball.

Career Timeline:

  • 1999: Born in Fort Worth, Texas; raised in South Florida
  • 2014-2018: Dominated high school tennis at West Boca Raton High School
  • 2017: Signed National Letter of Intent with UC Berkeley
  • 2018-2021: Starred at UC Berkeley, reached #13 NCAA ranking
  • 2021: Led Cal to first-ever Pac-12 Championship title; graduated with Business degree
  • Late 2021: Introduced to pickleball by father after hiking Pacific Crest Trail
  • January 2022: Professional debut—won two gold medals in first tournament
  • 2022: Won MLP Newport Beach Championship (co-MVP), signed three-year MLP contract
  • 2023: Signed multi-year contract extension with MLP through 2026; won MLP Atlanta MVP
  • 2024: Achieved “Upset of the Year” victory with Andrei Daescu over Johns/Waters
  • 2025: Partnered with Anna Leigh Waters, won 7 gold medals in Women’s Doubles
  • 2026: Continues as #2-ranked Women’s Doubles player, St. Louis Shock team member

The sport came to her through the most casual of invitations—her father, playing recreationally, suggesting she might enjoy it and that she might even be better at it. After finishing the Pacific Crest Trail and before starting her corporate job, she had time to explore. Within months of picking up a paddle in late 2021, Anna entered her first professional tournament in January 2022 and shocked the pickleball world by winning two gold medals in her debut.

Known for her lightning-fast hands, exceptional court anticipation, and signature two-handed backhand. Her aggressive attacking style and defensive consistency make her one of the most versatile players on tour. Bright attributes her success to fast hands, consistency, good anticipation—and her Hannah Montana pump-up playlist that gets her ready for battle.
